Pet owners now have a new place to consider for grooming in Belmont in Cushing Square. Dog Village Salon, 434 Common St. officially opened its doors at the former Revolve store on April 30. This is the second location for owner Renato Carmo of Medford, who also owns Pet House in Malden. He opened that location in 2007.

Carmo said he learned about the grooming business from his friend, Milene Lascani, who is now his master groomer. They worked together at Kentucky Fried Chicken in 2001. Lascani learned how to groom in Brazil when she owned a pet shop with her mother. It was a dream for both of them to open their own grooming salon.

Carmo said he became motivated to make his dream a reality when he was working at Dunkin Donuts in Everett in 2006 and a robber held a gun to his head. He almost lost his life that day and decided there was no more time to waste. He quickly learned everything there was about pet grooming and got approved for a loan to start his business.

Carmo and Lascani love animals and are dog owners. He owns a Chihuahua and she owns a poodle, who are the caricature logos for their new sign. When they first visited Belmont to check out the potential new location, they could see it is a pet-friendly town.

“I will treat your dog like my dog, my baby, my love,” said Lascani.

Carmo said he and his team’s goal is to make pets feel as comfortable as possible when they are groomed.

In addition to full grooming, Dog Village Salon offers teeth cleaning, bathing, brushing, ear cleaning, nail clipping and sanitary trimming for all kinds of pets including guinea pigs and rabbits. Walk-ins will be welcome.
